Workshop or Session Description: Telling stories about the mountains is a key skill of a Mountain Leader, and especially useful as you can do it whatever the weather. Fairies, giants and mythical battles are everywhere in Snowdonia, but are also themes that occur across mountain ranges round the world. We'll tell some stories about North Wales, both the well-known legends and other folklore, and look at the places in the mountains that inspired them. We can also find parallels in stories from other regions and countries. So if you know a good piece of folklore or a mountain myth, bring it with you and practice telling it!

Though this is a 'led' day, the emphasis is also on group sharing. Participants can be award holders or aspiring award holders from any outdoor qualification. We'll be spending the day outside so bring suitable clothing and preferably a waterproof notepad. The outcome from this day I'd like you to go away with is an ability and desire to tell your clients stories and folklore about the land on your walks.

This day is led by Alex Kendall, who has written two Cicerone guides to Snowdonia (and working on a third) and tries to fit myths and legends into these books wherever possible. He has also designed and run a weekend for novice adult walkers specifically taking them on walks with an emphasis on local myths.
