Aquatic Therapy Shallow Pool Rescue Award (ATSPRA) 6th Edition 

The Aquatic Therapy Shallow Pool Rescue Award (ATSPRA) is a supervision and rescue qualification for staff working on poolside or in the water during activities such as aquatic therapy or therapeutic exercise/play.

Prerequisites:

The ATSPRA qualification is designed for therapists, teachers and support staff working on the poolside it is suitable for use in shallow pools where the rescuer will not be required to swim to perform a rescue, with water no deeper than the rescuer's chest depth.

The ATSPRA course is open to anyone who is 16-years-of-age or older at the beginning of the course and able to:

  • Wade in standing depth water swiftly and confidently
  • Regain their feet from a face-down and face-up floating position
  • Climb out of the pool unaided• Swim a minimum of 20m on your front and back
  • Be able to climb out without help and without using steps or ladders (where venue design permits).

Course Content:

The course content includes;

  • The Teacher/therapist, risk assessment and pool safety
  • Intervention rescue and emergency action
  • CPR and First Aid

Assessment:

To achieve a ATSPRA certificate, candidates need to pass a formal assessment at the end of the course.

Renewal:

The ATSPRA certificate is valid for two years. To renew,  candidates must complete a minimum 6 hours training course plus assessment before qualification expires.
