National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches Seventh Edition

NRASTC is a supervision and rescue award for swimming teachers, coaches and/or instructors working during programmed activities, such as swimming lessons. It is suitable for teachers working in a wide range of swimming pools where the water is deeper than the teachers’ standing depth and meets the individual sites risk assessment.

Prerequisites:

The NRASTC course is designed for swimming teachers, coaches and/or instructors working during programmed activities, such as swimming lessons.

The NRASTC course is open to anyone who is 16-years-of-age or older at the beginning of the course and able to:

  • Swim a minimum of 20m on your front and back
  • Be able to climb out without help and without using steps or ladders (where venue design permits).

Course Content:

The course content includes;

  • The Teacher, swimming pool and class management
    • Intervention rescue
    • Emergency action
    • CPR and First Aid

Assessment:

To achieve the NRASTC certificate, candidates need to pass a formal assessment at the end of the course, where trainees must demonstrate the skills and knowledge learned during the course in the form of a theory and practical test.

Renewal:

The NRASTC certificate is valid for two years. To renew, candidates must complete a renewal course.
