Operations Director and mountain leader for Large Outdoors. I have worked for many different outdoor companies and charities as a freelancer since gaining my ML in 2011 and Winter ML in 2016, leading mountain days, navigation training, mountain challenges, multi-day trips, team building, overseas expeditions and support driving. Alex has worked for me as a walking guide on a variety of multiday long distance treks and has proved himself to be of an exceptionally high standard. His strong technical ability in dealing with both extremely challenging weather and navigation has been demonstrated on multiple occasions. Group management skills are strongly tested on our treks because our groups consist of a diverse selection of customers, they are often strangers, from a variety of countries, with mixed abilities and expectations. Alex’s interpersonal and leadership skills are well balanced, making him able to control groups in an approachable and friendly manor. Furthermore, Alex has an incredibly in-depth knowledge of flora and fauna, local history and geography, which is delivered in an engaging and often inspirational way. It is this combination of qualities that consistently gives Alex the fantastic feedback that he deserves from our customers and why he is one of our most highly valued guides.
