I am a WMCI and MCI with two decades of experience guiding and instructing across the UK and abroad. Now based mainly in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, I specialise in the Cuillin, Cairngorms and the great ridges and cliffs of the north and west.
I offer rock and winter climbing, multi-pitch, ice and mixed routes, scrambling, winter mountaineering and navigation, with a focus on small ratios and adventurous, esoteric lines. My approach blends technical instruction with local knowledge, history and geology, creating safe, memorable days that go beyond the ordinary.

Sam is an infectiously enthusiastic and multi-talented individual and is a naturally strong performer. He is good fun to be with and totally approachable. He's personally self-motivated, thorough, organised and hardworking. He has a thoughtful, safe and analytical approach to everything he does and is committed to continuous self-improvement.

I have known Sam for around a year and first met when he did some freelance work for Active Outdoor Pursuits. It was evident extremely quickly that Sam cared first and foremost for the clients and their day. He is very flexible with his styles of teaching to ensure that any clients all achieve the most they can. As a person Sam comes across incredibly friendly and very open as well as honest. He is very easy to build a rapport with and also to maintain a conversation with whilst climbing which always helps to keep people motivated and engaged for the day. Having climbed with him personally and professionally I am happy to say that he is an effective climber managing the safety of any climb appropriately while taking into account the conditions/weather as well as the snowpack. I look forward to the next climb that we can do together or adventure that we can go on.
