Award Description
This is a combined training and assessment course for people who want to actively support a qualified instructor. Qualified Indoor Climbing Assistants can assist with core tasks within a session, directly supervised by an instructor.
The Indoor Climbing Assistant is designed for people who want to support qualified instructors with climbing sessions on artificial structures. People interested in this scheme might be parents, youth workers, young leaders or teachers and the focus is on assisting with core tasks within a session.
While operating under the direct supervision of a qualified instructor, an Indoor Climbing Assistant can:
Assist with the fitting of basic equipment such as harnesses, helmets and rock shoes.
Assist a qualified instructor with the supervision of core climbing techniques.
Assist a qualified instructor at indoor and outdoor bouldering venues and climbing walls
Prerequisites for the Indoor Climbing Assistant course
Before you book onto an Indoor Climbing Assistant course you should have;
After the course you will be given an assessment result of either Pass or Defer (not yet mastered basic skills).
If you have completed the Indoor Climbing Assistant you should be competent in the following key areas, all of which will be covered, to a greater or lesser extent, during the course.
