Award Description
The Hill and Moorland Leader award is designed for people who want to lead groups in the hill and moorland areas of the UK and Ireland. This award is a wonderful opportunity to learn the leadership skills required to feel confident about taking people out walking. As you may have guessed from the descriptive title of this award, it focuses on non-mountainous terrain.
The scope of this scheme makes it appropriate for Duke of Edinburgh Leaders, Club Leaders, Volunteers and Outdoor Instructors. It is a walking qualification, nationally recognised within the outdoor industry and schools, and designed for people who wish to lead groups on day walks in the hills and moorland areas of the UK and Ireland.
Hill and Moorland Leaders lead groups in terrain that, as the name suggests, is in the Hills and Moors of the UK. Generally, this is out of Lowland areas such as farmland and woodlands and is often more remote, but not as mountainous as the operational scope of the Mountain Leader's scheme.
