National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches Light Seventh Edition
NRASTC LIGHT is a supervision and rescue award for swimming teachers, coaches and/or instructors working during programmed activities, such as swimming lessons when Lifeguard or First Aid backup is available to respond quickly in the event of an emergency.
Prerequisites:
It is suitable for teachers working in a wide range of swimming pools, including pools where the water is deeper than the teacher’s standing depth.
The NRASTC LIGHT course is open to anyone who is 16-years-of-age or older at the beginning of the course and able to:
This award is only suitable when the facility has staff qualified as Lifeguards or First Aiders that are available to respond quickly to a swimming teacher or coach in the event of an emergency.
If Lifeguard or First Aid backup is not available the standard NRASTC should be used.

Assessment:
To achieve a NRASTC LIGHT certificate, candidates need to pass a formal independent assessment at the end of the course.
Renewal:
The NRASTC LIGHT certificate is valid for two years. To renew, candidates must redo the training and complete the assessment.
If for some reason your qualification lapses you will be awarded the NRASTC Light which has the same content as the NRASTC qualiftation but needs to be accompanied with a First Aid qualification
The contents of the 7th Edition NRASTC Light award include The Teacher, Swimming Pool & Class, Intervention, Rescue & Emergency Action Plan, CPR, Defib & First Aid. Resuscitation on the child/adult/baby will included. You must feel confident in the water -Must be 16 years of age at the date of assessment - Be able to meet the following criteria prior to the course: - Swim 50m - Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool, 1.5m,2.0m,2.5m,2.9m - Climb out without help and without using steps or ladders - Must complete minimum guided learning hours - Successfully complete the course assessment. There is no written assessment.
Recognition of prior learning (RPL) is the process of recognising a candidate’s previous achievement towards part of the NRASTC qualification.
Regulated Emergency First Aid at Work Certificate - 5 hours
Regulated First Aid at Work Certificate or Occupational First Aid Certificate - 5 hours
