Award Description
This qualification trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hillwalking groups in summer conditions on mountainous routes not requiring the planned use of a rope. Established in 1964, this was the first qualification created by Mountain Training.
The course includes theoretical and practical sessions on the main aspects of the ML Award (summer) Scheme syllabus and will involve an overnight expedition. The course is for potential Leaders and assumes basic competence as a hillwalker. Twenty quality mountain days is the normally accepted minimum level of experience for attendance on the training course. The course fee includes necessary specialist equipment, instruction, transport whilst on the course and course administration. Not included: Transport to and from Plas Pencelli or personal accident insurance. The Centre holds Professional Indemnity and 3rd party liability insurance policies.
