Description

Led a team of 21 up Snowdon for their Charity, Oxford Radcliffe Hospital Ronald MacDonald House. Supported by Nick Piper (MLs) and Maria Moore.
Route: Watkin Path with variation i.e. via the Rhyd Ddu Path on the way up and back down the Watkin Path.
Weather: Mostly sunny with good visibility
The group had significant capability differences which led to a natural split of the group. Nick and Maria looked after 18 of the group who were travelling at around the same speed, leaving me to lead the remaining three which were considerably slower.
It was decided that the slow party members were to go up and return via the Watkin path rather than the intended loop. Two members of the slow group could only go as far Bwlch Ciliau, here they were picked up by the descending group and returned to the car park.
The remaining individual was led to the summit of Snowdon however, he became crag fast on the final ascent and required confidence rope to be used to lead him to the summit. Due to this it was decided to bring this individual down via the Miners path to Pen y Pass as the path was less steep to what he was on.
Arrangements were then made for us to be picked up from Pen y Pass.

Organised and planned the walk including route, provided kit advice, dietary advice and exercise advice, checked kit before event and on day.
Experience gained - group management including significant difference in capabilities. Confidence rope work, security on steep ground, providing advice and technique to party members to move easily and safer on the mountain.

3 nights camping in Dolgam 09/09/2016 to 12/09/16
