Path Taken

Description

Route - Start Llanfihangel-y-pennant, car park opposite the church. Took the bridle path to Haffotty Gwastadfryn. Carried on the bridle path in a NW direction to Rhiew Gwredydd. Picked up path over Carnedd Lwyd, Craig-Las, Craig-y-llyn and finally Twll yr Ogof. At the fence headed south to pick up track back to Haffotty Gwastadfryn.
Weather - Overcast, some heavy rain showers with moderate guests on top. Good visibility.
Learning Points - Route plan and pre walk organisation. Map reading and compass work, re-location exercise on way to Haffotty Gwastadfryn. Timing exercise from Rhiew Gwredydd path junction to Craig-Las, however, did not positively identify the description of the destination and mistook Craig-y-llyn as Craig-Las! Obviously when we reached Craig Las I realised the mistake through another relocation exercise!

Cadair Idris or Cader Idris is a mountain in Gwynedd, Wales, which lies at the southern end of the Snowdonia National Park near the town of Dolgellau. The peak, which is one of the most popular in Wales for walkers and hikers,[1] is composed largely of Ordovician igneous rocks, with classic glacial erosion features such as cwms, moraines, striated rocks, and roches moutonnées.
