I started supervising groups in the outdoors aged 17 through a school outdoor education programme. As a student I worked at Alien Rock in Edinburgh which was the start of my instructing proper. However I would say I really started teaching in the outdoors during my PGCE year at Bangor Uni 2005-06. Since then I have taught in a variety of schools, outdoor centres and on expedition. I now work as a freelance MIC based in Inverness from where I run www.johannespetersen.scot mountain navigation courses.
