I started my first award when I was 17 with the CWA. I found the whole training and assessment experience extremely helpful and rewarding when I passed.
It made me want to become a Mountain assessor, I aim to one day provide ML and SPA assessments and training.
This is all because I want to try and make people be the best instructors they can so that they can inspire other people in their instruction and coaching of outdoor activities.

Joe has a broad experience across the climbing and walking disciplines. Joe’s day job largely revolves around his work on the climbing wall at Calshot, both delivering courses and assisting with the daily management of a large commercial wall. Recently he has been assisting with both CWA and SPA courses delivered via the Hampshire Centres and has contributed well in these forums. Further afield his links with the Scouts take him around the world on mountaineering adventures. Joe is well prepared, organised and communicates effectively with a range of clients.

I have known Joe for several years and seen him develop as an instructor and individual significantly over that time. He previously worked for me at Calshot Activities Centre and was a valued member of staff teaching a wide range of climbing activities from our 4-7 year olds club to indoor leading courses and a range of outdoor courses as well. Since he left Calshot for Wales I have visited him several times with my 12 year old son. In that time Joe has taught him to lead climb, Scramble and Multi-pitch climb. I have always been happy with Joes Decision making and judgment though this process and My son is now a confident Severe leader on single & multi-pitch climbs. Joe has a great maner with the full range of potential cuatomers from young novices to adults on instructor training courses where Joe has assisted me several times.

I’ve climbed with Joe as a friend for almost ten years now and we have gone through various MT qualifications together. Joe currently works for The Outward Bound Trust coaching and mentoring new instructors to run their programs. Earlier in 2019, Joe became the first Scout in the world to ski to the South Pole and kite ski back to the coast. We have climbed all over the UK in both summer & winter and Joe shows all of the characteristics required for the WCMI award.
