Coming of the back of a full military career in the army and falling foul to a spurious offer of an AT course early in my career to go parachuting in N Wales (yes, parachuting from the Isle of Anglesey), I ended up on a military Mountain Leader Training course. So, already filled with a hatred for 'military hill walking' as its all I ever seemed to do in the army, I 'cracked on' and found out that I quite enjoyed it. Fast forward to now with a fair few years of living abroad, spending time honing my skiing and winter climbing in the Canadian Rockies, then learning to rock climb (yes, in that order) and finally moving back to the UK I decided to take the plunge and get qualified, Starting by gaining what was the Climbing Wall Award, now CWI, I followed this a few years later by gaining the SPA/RCI, then SML, WML and most recently FCA.
I freelance in and around my 'grown up' job mainly in the Highlands of Scotland and occasionally a little further afield.
I enjoy the development process, the early footsteps of teaching/coaching/mentoring/leading people, allowing them the opportunity to try a new challenge far away from their comfort zone and introduce them to a whole new environment.
