ABOUT JIM /

I've been Walking, Scrambling and Climbing for over 20 years. I grew up just north of the Lake District in the heart of the Eden Valley and now live just outside the Peak District.

My Qualifications

I hold the Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor Award (MCI) which is the highest summer based Mountaineering and Rock Climbing Qualification in the UK. I also hold the Winter Mountain Leader Award. I'm First Aid Qualified as well as being fully insured for all the activities I teach.

My Personal Experience

I am experienced in climbing in most areas of England (Lakes, Peak, Cornwall, Northumberland, Avon) Scotland and Wales in both Summer and Winter
I have also climbed in the Alps during the summer and winter as well as in the Antarctic. I have trekked in Norway, Ecuador, Chile, Bolivia and Patagonia

Personal Life

I'm a husband and father to two children. I have a BEng (Hons) Degree in Civil Engineering from Loughborough University
I am an enthusiastic climbing book collector (over 200+ signed first editions) and bit of a geek when it comes to climbing literature in general. I'm also a true lover of Malt W

I’ve climbed many times with Jim particularly on rock. He is a competent and enthusiastic climber and instructor who regularly work with his MCI. He works part time as an instructor but takes pride staying current and up to date with good practice, and I’m always happy to employing him for MCI work. He has winter climbing experience which spans decades and relevant experience from alpine trips. His has climbed many Grade V Scottish winter classics. He also gives up a considerable amount sits on the BMC Technical Committee and has volunteered as the AMI Communications Officer for the last 4 years. I have no hesitation in recommending Jim to go forward for the WMCI scheme.
